Športová hala continues to be a fortress for BC Prievidza. On Saturday, the Miners defeated Iskra Svit 100-77 for their ninth home win in a row.
With Head Coach Gareth Murray suspended for the game, Assistant Coach Michal Suriak stepped up to lead the BC troops, supported by Maroš Helmecy. And the new coaching duo had the squad firing on all cylinders early: A 19-0(!) run in the first five minutes set the tone in commanding fashion. Alley-oop throwdowns by Hunter Dean and Marc Loving, coast-to-coast dunks by Keith Jordan, C.J. Jackson and Lukáš Bolek threes - the Miners put on a show for their fans and the contest seemed over after the first quarter (32-8, 10.).
But, as it tends to be the case with big leads, a certain sloppiness took hold of the hosts after that. Missed layups, a few too many turnovers, lackadaisical defense - slowly but steadily, Svit managed to creep back into the game. While a 15-point half-time lead suggested safety, in the third quarter, the guests narrowed the gap to seven with impressive shot-making and seemed to have taken over the momentum.
However, in the final stanza, BC erased the last doubts and quickly extended the advantage to double digits again. When C.J. Jackson hit his fifth triple of the night to make it 90-70 with five minutes to go, Svit’s resistance was finally broken. 19 seconds before the final buzzer, Lubomir Urban put the icing on the cake breaking the 100-point barrier with his first home point in BC colours.
